Cost Groups (Grouping)

Note that the contents shown here apply to both the 'Preconstruction Estimate' stage and to the 'Request for Quotation' stage

Elements that are to be costed as count group elements need to be collected together as groups. Each group should contain the element that is to be counted and used as the unit reference basis.
For groups whose elements are to be counted, this means that the group should contain all relevant occurrences of the item that is to be counted. For instance, a system group should contain all occurrences of heat emitters which will form the unit basis for costing.

Other groupings that may be used include:

  • Length grouping where the total length is determined by the addition of the length of all or selected elements in the group
  • Area grouping where the total area is determined by the addition of the area of all or selected elements in the group
  • Volume grouping where the total volume is determined by the addition of the volume of all or selected elements in the group
  • Weight grouping where the total weight is determined by the addition of the weight of all or selected elements in the group

For each group, the following information should be given:

Information Needed MAN REC OPT
Name of the group
Where a local naming convention exists that is intended to regulate the names that may be given to a group, then the name used should be selected from the list available within that naming convention.
   
Description of the group    
Major categorisation (type) of the items in the group
