Cost Item (Measured)

Information below is provided by the role Cost Modelling through the functional part fp_model_cost_item

A cost item should be defined for each element group. The cost item brings together the quantity of the group, the unit cost for the group and all the relevant cost factors and provides a result that is an overall cost value.
Cost item information includes:

Information Needed MAN REC OPT
Each cost item should have the unit cost basis identified according to the type of quantity specified.
  • Counted item quantities are identified by the unit type 'USERDEFINEDUNIT'. It is recommended that the user definition is set as 'COUNTUNIT'
  • Length quantities are identified by the unit type 'LENGTHUNIT'
  • Area quantities are identified by the unit type 'AREAUNIT'
  • Volume quantities are identified by the unit type 'VOLUMEUNIT'
  • Weight quantities are identified by the unit type 'MASSUNIT'

Each cost item should have units named according to the measurement system used
e.g. METRE for SI units or FEET for imperial units. A dimensional exponent for length of 2 should be set to identify area measurement; other dimensional exponents should be set to 0.

Each cost item should have dimensional exponent set according to the unit used
  • For counted item quantities, all exponents are set to 0
  • For length quantities, the length exponent is set to 1 and all other exponents to 0
  • For area quantities, the length exponent is set to 2 and all other exponents to 0
  • For volume quantities, the length exponent is set to 3 and all other exponents to 0
  • For weight quantities, the mass exponent is set to 1 and all other exponents to 0

The value of the cost item should be asserted.
For 'approximate estimate' costing, the value of the cost item will be the quantity applied to the cost item multiplied by the unit cost value and the cost factors that are to be applied. A resulting cost value giving the total cost is applied to the cost item.

Each cost item should be named as appropriate
Refer to locally extended exchange requirements for further details of agreed cost types and cost item names.

Each cost item used may have a further description associated to further define the meaning of the item
Each cost value captured within the cost item must also have a type assigned.
The date on which the cost value is applicable should be asserted.
If there is a limit to the time for which a cost is applicable, it should also be asserted.
