Exchange Requirements

An Exchange Requirement describes the information needed by a business process to be executed as well as the information produced by the same business process. An exchange requirement attempt to break down these information requirements into concepts which can be easily understood. Each Exchange Requirements will be referenced by one or more Process Map(s) (PM(s)) and normally an ER will be identified through the description of a PM.

Overview of identified Exchange Requirements (ER)

The list below provides shows all identified ERs. This list is by all means not complete and is exptected to continue to grow.

• Exchange Asset (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is to support the exchange of information concerning assets where an asset is a grouping of elements that are identified together for financial or operational or maintenance purposes.
• Exchange Asset Inventory (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is to enable the exchange of information about an inventory that contains a list of assets. A requirement for the exchange of other inventory information may be defined elsewhere.
• Exchange Building Model - Basic (ER) — A basic building model is defined as 'the set of information that provides both a graphical representation of the design of a building and key pieces of information about the building that can be further used to analyse building performance' (from Autodesk)
• Exchange Building Model - Programming (ER) — A basic building model is defined as 'the set of information that provides both a graphical representation of the design of a building and key pieces of information about the building that can be further used to analyse building performance' (from Autodesc)
• Exchange Classification (ER) — This exchange requirement deals with classification data added to objects to enable them to be identified grouped or arranged in a particular way.
• Exchange Condition Assessment (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is to enable the exchange of information about the condition of an element or a group of elements (typically acting as an asset).
• Exchange Cost Model - Approximate Estimate (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is cost modelling stage 3 - Approximate Estimate.
• Exchange Cost Model - Final Account (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is cost modelling stage 5 - Actual Cost Decomposition. It is applicable at any stage of a project where work is completed and all materials provided. It is simply the cost model at the completion of a project (which may be for construction, operation and maintenance or disposal) as agreed between the cost model advisor to the client and the contractor and it defines the final amount of money to be paid to the contractor for completing the project.
• Exchange Cost Model - Order of Magnitude (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is cost modelling stage 1 - Order of Magnitude.
• Exchange Cost Model - Preconstruction Estimate (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is cost modelling stage 4 - Detailed Estimate.
• Exchange Cost Model - Preliminary Appraisal (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is cost modelling stage 2 - Preliminary Appraisal.
• Exchange Cost Model - Quotation Estimate (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is cost modelling stage 4 - Detailed Estimate.
• Exchange Cost Model - Request For Quotation (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is cost modelling stage 4 - Detailed Estimate.
• Exchange Cost Model - Variation Estimate (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is cost modelling stage 5 - Actual Cost Decomposition. It is applicable at any stage of a project where work has been done or materials provided for which a variation (change) in cost may be appropriate as a result of a change in specification of materials or services or a change in the extent of their provision.
• Exchange Electrical Model - Equipment (ER) — Exchange of information to enable coordination of equipment with other technical design role, building design and structural design.
• Exchange Electrical Model - Space (ER) — Exchange of information about technical spaces for electrical plant and equipment. Used to coordinate with general zoning and spacing requirements with other roles.
• Exchange Electrical Model - Systems (ER) — Exchange of information about electrical systems (circuits), their distribution, connection, switching, protection etc.
• Exchange Energy Analysis Model - Demand (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is the exchange of information about energy demand and comfort. The purpose of the exchange requirement is to enable coordination of energy analysis with HVAC and electrical and piping systems engineers for system definition and sizing.
• Exchange Energy Analysis Model - Energy (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is the exchange of information about energy consumption. The purpose of the exchange requirement is to enable coordination of energy analysis with other design roles based on the results of energy analysis and the ability to comply with set energy targets. Here, it is considered that the energy and comfort advisor may have an impact on the overall design of a project particularly in cases where a building is required to be energy efficient (complying with a high target).
• Exchange Energy Analysis Model - Zones (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is the exchange of information about spaces with associated energy information and about proposed energy analysis zones. The purpose of the exchange requirement is to support the coordination of energy analysis requirements with general zoning and spacing requirements.
• Exchange HVAC Model - Equipment (ER) — Exchange of information about shape, size and location of HVAC components.
• Exchange HVAC Model - Programming (ER) — HVAC model at the programming stage that can be added to overall building information model.
• Exchange HVAC Model - Space (ER) — Exchange of information about technical spaces for HVAC plant and equipment and how other spaces are grouped for system development and fire compartmentation. Used to coordinate with general zoning and spacing requirements with other roles.
• Exchange HVAC Model - Systems (ER) — Exchange of information about configuration, size, location, connection and technical data of HVAC systems including both the components and the distribution elements.
• Exchange Maintenance Plan (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is to support the exchange of information concerning maintenance plans.
• Exchange Maintenance Schedule (ER) — The scope of this exchange requirement is to support the exchange of information concerning maintenance schedules.
• Exchange Terrain (ER) — A terrain model describes the shape of the ground surface (terrain) within a defined space. This is achieved by determining the elevation of a number of points of known location within that area relative to a datum level.
