Overview
This exchange requirement deals with classification data added to objects to enable them to be identified grouped or arranged in a particular way.
The exchange requirement handles the idea of an object being exchanged with its classification information only (that is, no data other than the classification). It can also be used in conjunction with exchange requirements for the provision of other data about objects. Classification information can be applied and exchanged at any stage of a project using the classification information that is available at the time.
A classification can be associated with any type of object used. That is, it can be used with a physical product, the process of installing a physical product, a document or a property set.
There are two ideas about classification described in this exchange requirement:
- 'Lightweight' classification - useful where the classification has a single value or where a minimum amount of classification information needs to be known.
- 'Full classification - which should be used for detailed, multi-part classifications and which should include information about the classification system used where the system describes the complete structure of the classification system used
In using this exchange requirement, 'light' or 'full' may be considered as parameters that can be applied to determine how classification information should be exchanged. Thus:
- er_exchange_classification (light)
- er_exchange_classification (full)
Information Requirements
| Context | Description |
|---|---|
| Precursor | All objects that are to have the classification assigned exist within the model, are properly identified (through a globally unique identifier), have their owner histories and are named as necessary. |
| Light | Limited, single value classification information is specified. |
| Full | Used for detailed, multi-part classifications. |
